Talent Magpie is representing a growing, internationally operating business seeking a highly organised Finance Assistant to support their London team.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Management Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function. This position requires someone extremely organised, detail-driven and confident managing multiple priorities including overseeing three finance-related email inboxes. You will be instrumental in maintaining financial accuracy, managing supplier relationships professionally, and ensuring efficient processing of debits and credits.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Finance Operations
- Record and process day-to-day financial transactions using Xero
- Manage and monitor three finance inboxes, ensuring prompt and professional responses
- Oversee invoice approvals and maintain organised digital records
- Accounts Payable & Reconciliation
- Process supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Manage employee expenses and chase outstanding information where required
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and debit transactions
- Maintain strong control over debits and credits ensuring accuracy across ledgers
- Support weekly payment runs
- Month-End & Reporting Support
- Assist with month-end processes including journals (prepayments, accruals, depreciation)
- Support preparation for year-end close
- Assist with internal reporting across departments
- VAT & CIS (Beneficial)
- Support VAT return preparation
- CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) knowledge beneficial but not essential
- Assist with CIS submissions if applicable
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years’ experience in a Finance Assistant / Bookkeeping role
- Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential)
- Confident managing high-volume finance inboxes
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Efficient handling of debits, credits and reconciliations
- Professional and confident when dealing with suppliers
- Understanding of UK VAT
- CIS knowledge beneficial but not essential
- AAT or ICB qualification (desirable but not essential)
