Our client, a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure specialist, is seeking a Senior Estimator to join their team in Manchester. The Senior Estimator is responsible for managing and delivering accurate cost estimates for civil engineering works, in line with established estimating processes. The role involves collaborating with tender teams to develop competitive solutions, assess risk and opportunity, and secure work that aligns with the organisation’s strategic and commercial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage accurate cost estimates for civil engineering works in accordance with established estimating systems and procedures.
  • Lead and coordinate estimating teams on larger or more complex tenders, providing guidance and mentoring to junior estimators.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks and opportunities throughout the tender process.
  • Work closely with bid management, planning, and delivery teams to agree methodology, pricing principles, and tender strategy.
  • Develop, document, and maintain key estimating assumptions and ensure all tender documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Provide pricing support for business development and early contractor involvement opportunities.
  • Obtain feedback from site teams on estimate accuracy, current costs, and lessons learned.
  • Prepare and present estimates for internal review and adjudication, clearly outlining the basis of estimate and key assumptions.
  • Compile adjudication packs, record outcomes and actions, and manage approvals through close-out and negotiation stages.
  • Prepare estimating handover documentation and participate in handover meetings at contract award.
  • Provide ongoing estimating and commercial support to site teams during project delivery as required.
  • Support temporary works pricing and design input for construct-only and design-and-construct tenders.

Required Experience:

  • Engineering or commercial background.
  • HNC or equivalent in a related Engineering qualification.
  • Experience in water and civils.
  • Proven track record working on tenders ranging up to 50m.
  • Numerate and IT literate, familiar with estimating software and Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Chartered, incorporated status or similar.
  • Confidence in dealing with customers and personnel within the company at a senior level.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of wastewater, rail, or the tunnelling sector.
