A leading engineering consultancy is looking for an exceptional Chief Geotechnical Engineer (Dams & Reservoirs) to join their team at one of their offices across the UK. This is a high-profile leadership role for a recognised industry expert, acting as the organisation's technical authority for dam and reservoir engineering across a diverse portfolio of nationally significant and internationally complex projects. Responsibilities for Chief Geotechnical Engineer:
- Act as technical authority for dam and reservoir geotechnical engineering across the business
- Provide expert oversight and technical assurance for major dam safety, rehabilitation, and new-build projects
- Lead development and implementation of technical standards, guidance, and engineering best practice
- Act as Independent Technical Reviewer and Approver for complex geotechnical and dam engineering solutions
- Develop and implement the long-term strategy for the dams and reservoirs practice
- Drive business growth across water utilities, hydropower, flood risk management, and critical infrastructure sectors
- Lead strategic client relationships with water companies, government agencies, and asset owners
- Mentor Principal Engineers, Associates, and future technical leaders
- Champion innovation, digital engineering, and advanced analytical techniques
Essential Requirements for Chief Geotechnical Engineer:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a recognised professional institution
- Extensive experience in geotechnical and dam engineering at a senior leadership level
- Recognised technical authority with an established industry reputation
- Proven track record in business development and growing technical teams
- Strong knowledge of embankment dam design, seepage analysis, internal erosion, stability assessment, and dam safety management
- Proficiency in GeoStudio Suite, PLAXIS 2D/3D, Rocscience Suite, and hydraulic modelling platforms
