The Opportunity
Are you an experienced AWS Data Engineer who loves building robust BI pipelines but is also itching to work on next-generation AI? Our Public Sector client is investing heavily in its data platform and future AI capabilities. We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to bridge the gap between traditional BI delivery and emerging AI use cases. This is a unique contract role offering a perfect 50/50 split between supporting core BI/Data Engineering and building brand-new capabilities, including data lake evolution and cutting-edge AI initiatives.
The Role Split
- 50% Core Delivery: Optimising AWS data pipelines, data platform components, and enhancing BI reporting/analytics.
- 50% Innovation: Developing new capabilities, modern data architecture, and collaborating on AI-driven initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Design & Optimise: Build and scale data pipelines and platform components within AWS.
- Architect the Future: Contribute directly to the development of a modern data lake architecture.
- Innovate with AI: Collaborate with wider teams on AI-related roadmaps, supporting AI-enabled data products and workflows.
- Maintain Quality: Apply best practices around data quality, governance, DataOps, and performance optimization.
What We Are Looking For
- Core Technical Stack:
- AWS Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with the AWS Data Engineering stack (Glue, S3, Lambda, Redshift, Athena).
- Languages: Advanced SQL and Python (specifically for data processing and pipeline development).
- Environment: 4-8+ years in Data Engineering/BI roles, with a proven background in data warehousing and analytics.
- Infrastructure (Desirable): Exposure to Terraform, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.
AI / ML Exposure (Key Requirement): You don't need to be a pure Data Scientist, but you must have practical, demonstrable exposure to AI/ML concepts. We want to see:
- Experience with cloud-based AI services (e.g., AWS Bedrock or similar).
- An understanding of Generative AI, prompt engineering, or supporting AI-enabled workflows.
- Experience collaborating with Data Science teams or working alongside ML pipelines.
Bonus Points For: Public sector experience or working within complex, regulated environments.
Why Apply?
This role offers the stability of a high-profile public sector organisation alongside the excitement of a greenfield AI project. Add to that a highly competitive day rate and an incredibly relaxed hybrid policy (just once a month in the office), and it's an ideal project to kickstart your next contract.
