About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a leading technology consultancy on a major enterprise cloud transformation project based in Telford.
In this role, you will design, build, and optimize high-performance data pipelines to migrate a large-scale legacy SAS estate (including SAS 9.4 and Viya 3.5 components) to SAS Viya 4 on AWS. You will work closely with consultancy architects, platform engineers, and client delivery teams to ensure seamless data integration, automated pipeline delivery, and robust data governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Development: Design and implement robust ETL processes to migrate data from legacy SAS environments to SAS Viya 4 on a cloud-native AWS platform.
- Integration and Job Refactoring: Collaborate with SAS developers to refactor existing legacy jobs, ensuring full compatibility, scalability, and performance in Viya 4.
- Automation and CI/CD: Build automated workflows for data ingestion and processing using modern DevOps tools (Jenkins, Git) integrated into continuous delivery pipelines.
- Data Quality and Governance: Ensure all solutions strictly adhere to data governance, security, and GDPR standards, implementing automated monitoring and alerting for pipeline health.
- Consultancy and Stakeholder Engagement: Work alongside client architects, business analysts, and test teams to align technical delivery with broader migration milestones and support UAT readiness.
Key Skills and Experience Required
- SAS Expertise: Strong background working across legacy and modern SAS technology stacks (SAS 9.4, SAS Viya 3.x/4, SAS Data Integration Studio).
- ETL and Data Engineering: Proven experience building and managing scalable ETL pipelines using SAS DI, Pentaho, Talend, or similar tools.
- Cloud and Containers: Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Programming and Scripting: Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and shell scripting for complex data processing.
- DevOps Practices: Solid understanding of Agile delivery, version control (Git), and automated CI/CD build tools (Jenkins).
Desirable Experience
- Relevant certifications in SAS or AWS Data Engineering.
- Prior experience delivering through a consultancy or within highly regulated / government environments.
- Familiarity with data virtualization platforms (e.g., Denodo). xiskglj
