About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Team Leader to lead a busy technical design office within the construction engineering sector.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural or temporary works engineer with proven leadership skills to manage a high-performing technical team, support commercial activities, and drive operational excellence.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day performance of the technical department, ensuring the delivery of safe, accurate, cost-effective engineering solutions while developing team capability and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Technical Office to ensure efficient delivery of engineering projects.
- Oversee the production of high-quality, accurate and commercially viable engineering drawings, calculations, schedules and quotations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and quality standards across all technical activities.
- Provide technical guidance and engineering support to customers and the commercial sales team.
- Promote engineering best practice and deliver a first-class technical service.
- Develop strong working relationships with sales teams to maximise technical resource and project delivery.
- Collaborate with technical teams across multiple regions to share knowledge and maintain consistent engineering standards.
- Work closely with senior management to drive continuous improvement and operational performance.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, mentoring and ongoing development of engineering staff.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and support career progression within the team.
- Communicate business objectives, technical updates and company initiatives effectively to the engineering team.
- Support strategic planning and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
About You
The ideal candidate will have
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership is desirable.
- Previous experience leading or supervising an engineering or technical design team.
- Strong background in temporary works, formwork, falsework, scaffolding or structural engineering.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering design principles and construction methodologies.
- Experience producing or reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical excellence and project profitability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational and people management abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
