Talent Guardian is working with a premium design-led manufacturer near to Stevenage to recruit a Product Design Engineer with a passion for combining creativity, engineering expertise, and commercial awareness.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll take concepts from brief through to fully developed designs, applying both innovative thinking and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes. Working closely with UK and overseas teams, you’ll develop stylish, functional, and high-quality products that stand out in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver product design and engineering solutions from initial brief through concept and detail design stages.
  • Generate innovative, consumer-focused design and mechanical solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Collaborate with industrial designers to integrate creative vision with functional requirements.
  • Identify appropriate manufacturing processes and materials during concept development.
  • Apply DFA and DFM principles to ensure efficient, high-quality production.
  • Liaise with overseas engineering teams to maintain aesthetic and functional intent during detail design.
  • Manage critical paths to ensure on-time delivery of the product development pipeline.
  • Create proof-of-concept and advanced prototypes for testing and assessment.
  • Research materials, processes, and technologies with potential industry applications.
  • Work closely with compliance teams to ensure designs meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Attend occasional overseas trips to review designs with manufacturing partners and visit trade shows/events in Europe.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline (BSc preferred).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a design department, consultancy, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with manufacturing facilities, ideally including overseas suppliers.
  • Proven track record of developing innovative products from concept through to detailed design.
  • Experience with plastic product development.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to present ideas at all levels.
  • Experience collaborating with Far East manufacturers.
  • Background in consumer product industries.
