Based in the Cambridgeshire town of Peterborough since 2002, our client has established itself as one of the UK's leading suppliers of kitchen ventilation and extraction systems to the catering industry. They have invested in state-of-the-art equipment which enables them to design, manufacture and install high-quality commercial kitchen extraction and ventilation systems for high-profile clients across the hospitality, catering and construction sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing business, working on bespoke projects where you will play a key role throughout the full design and delivery process.

The Role

This is a superb opportunity for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join the business as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within a growing team. The role will involve designing, implementing and supporting the delivery of commercial kitchen ventilation systems, working on projects ranging from £5,000 to £500,000. The successful candidate will be involved from initial customer requirements through to completed installation, including developing engineering solutions, completing site surveys, producing technical drawings, gaining customer approvals and supporting installation teams. This is a hybrid position combining office-based design work with customer/site visits across London and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be required to commute to the Peterborough office when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and overseeing the design of HVAC systems, including commercial kitchen extract hoods and ventilation systems, air handling units, general building ventilation, toilet ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Reviewing customer requirements and developing practical, cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Completing site surveys, taking accurate measurements and assessing installation requirements
  • Creating and revising technical drawings and design layouts for customer approval
  • Producing bills of materials and supporting production teams with accurate design information
  • Liaising with customers, subcontractors and internal teams throughout the design and installation process
  • Providing technical support during installation, troubleshooting issues and resolving design queries
  • Supporting the quotation process by gathering technical information and assisting with project proposals
  • Focusing on energy efficiency, quality and practical installation throughout projects

Requirements

Essential

  • 5-10 years experience within mechanical design engineering
  • Proven experience designing mechanical systems, ideally within commercial ventilation, HVAC or related environments
  • Strong mechanical design experience with excellent technical drawing skills
  • Experience using 3D CAD/CAM technologies
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and installation requirements
  • Comfortable attending customer sites and working with clients and subcontractors
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive, adaptable and self-motivated approach with a strong desire to deliver high-quality solutions

  • Experience within the ventilation industry
  • Experience taking designs through construction, testing, supporting calculations and documentation
  • Experience within HVAC, building services or mechanical systems design
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment
