Our client is an established rail infrastructure consultancy delivering specialist survey support across the UK, from topographical data capture to complex rail projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical Surveyor with a valid PTS to develop rail expertise under an experienced Lead Surveyor.

The Role

Working in a two-person team alongside a Lead Surveyor based in the South Yorkshire Area, you will travel from home to sites nationwide, mainly along Eastern and East Midlands routes. Projects can involve Monday to Thursday nights away from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Surveyor with topographical, railway, gauging, land and OLE surveys.
  • Collect accurate site data, undertake setting-out and survey-monitoring activities, and produce survey data promptly.
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate survey equipment.
  • Follow Network Rail standards, SHEQ procedures and relevant site risk controls.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • A valid PTS competency and full UK driving licence.
  • At least one year's rail-surveying experience, or at least two years' relevant non-rail surveying experience.
  • Hands-on topographical or detailed survey experience and a strong focus on accuracy and safety.
  • Flexibility to travel nationwide, work away from home when projects require it and take part in available Saturday-night overtime.

Desirable

  • Trimble equipment experience is preferred; familiarity with Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, laser scanning or survey-processing software is advantageous.
  • Rail, P-Way, OLE, gauging, AutoCAD or MicroStation experience is beneficial, but not essential where transferable survey skills are strong.
  • COSS is desirable, but not essential. The company will support further competence development.

What's In It For You?

  • £25,000 - £33,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • 40-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with Saturday-night overtime available every week at time and a half.
  • 28 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays, pension scheme and healthcare after five years' service.
  • Work-related expenses covered, with transport provided while working alongside the Lead Surveyor.
  • Support for Sentinel sponsorship, PTS renewals, rail medicals, drugs-and-alcohol testing and future COSS development.
  • A long-term opportunity with an experienced rail business.
