Our client is a domestic and sexual abuse charity based in Loughborough, Leicestershire. They provide support to men, women and children affected by domestic abuse and/or sexual violence across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Role

Victim Engagement Workers provide early intervention support to repeat victims of domestic abuse following police call-outs. The role focuses on rapid engagement, risk identification, safety planning, and ensuring victims receive timely access to specialist support and services. You will act as a key point of contact, offering information, advocacy, and emotional support to help victims make informed decisions and improve their safety and outcomes. This includes liaison with police, statutory agencies, and voluntary sector partners to ensure a coordinated response.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contacting repeat victims following police call-outs as quickly as possible
  • Completing risk assessments, safety planning, and needs assessments
  • Providing advice on legal rights, housing, welfare benefits, and support options
  • Supporting victims to access refuges or alternative accommodation where required
  • Acting as an advocate and supporting engagement with relevant services
  • Maintaining accurate and timely case records, including use of police systems (e.g. Niche)
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure ongoing support pathways
  • Contributing to team meetings, service development, and organisational objectives

Requirements

Essential

  • Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals
  • Minimum 2 years experience (paid or voluntary) in a relevant support, advice or information role
  • Empathy and sensitivity when working with survivors of abuse
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to produce clear written records, case notes, reports and correspondence
  • Experience using IT systems, email and internet-based tools
  • Understanding of the importance of accurate and timely record keeping
  • Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector services
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative within set boundaries
  • Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding requirements
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships
