Having built a strong reputation within their specialist sector, our client operates across multiple UK locations and enjoys long-standing relationships with a number of high‑profile customers. As the business continues to evolve, they are seeking a commercially minded finance leader who can work in close partnership with the Managing Director and wider leadership team to support both operational performance and future growth.
This is a highly visible and hands‑on role, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function whilst playing an active part in strategic decision‑making. It would suit an experienced Financial Controller who enjoys balancing technical excellence with commercial insight and stakeholder engagement.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of the finance function, ensuring robust financial reporting, effective controls and meaningful business insight. Working collaboratively with senior leadership, you will help shape business decisions through accurate financial analysis, forecasting and performance management.
You will also play a key role in driving process improvements, supporting operational efficiency and ensuring the business is well positioned for its next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month‑end and year‑end close process, producing accurate management accounts and financial reporting.
- Provide meaningful financial analysis and performance reporting to support strategic and operational decision‑making.
- Oversee project and contract costing, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, profitability analysis and margin management.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning, providing insight and challenge where required.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements and relevant accounting standards.
- Act as the key liaison for external accountants, auditors and other professional advisers.
- Drive continuous improvement across financial controls, systems and processes.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, VAT, corporation tax and payroll activities.
- Support workforce planning, labour cost analysis and wider business performance initiatives.
- Partner closely with the Managing Director and leadership team to support business planning and future growth.
About You
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Previous experience operating as a Financial Controller or within a senior finance leadership position.
- Strong financial reporting, controls and technical accounting expertise.
- Experience overseeing payroll, compliance and statutory reporting requirements.
- Commercially astute with the ability to translate financial information into actionable business insight.
- Strong systems and Excel capability.
- Confident communicator who can build credibility and influence across the business.
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands‑on within a growing organisation.
- Naturally proactive with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Due to the nature of the role this is an onsite based role.
