We are currently recruiting for a Packhouse Line Leader to join a fresh produce packhouse operation. This role is responsible for leading a packing line to ensure production targets, quality standards, and food safety requirements are met on a daily basis. This is a hands-on, operational role within a fast-paced environment, working closely with packers, other Line Leaders, and Supervisors.
Main Duties – Operational
- Supervise and lead a team of packers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to standard.
- Ensure the packing line operates efficiently to meet daily production targets and KPIs, including packs per minute per operator and overall line performance.
- Monitor individual and line performance, reporting underperforming packers to the Packhouse Supervisor.
- Manage the flow of fruit and materials on the line to prevent bottlenecks, communicating promptly with the Supervisor regarding any delays.
- Identify and respond to operational issues, including equipment malfunctions or staffing shortages.
- Oversee the grading, sorting, and packing of fruit to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
- Ensure accurate labelling, packaging, and compliance with customer and retailer specifications.
- Identify quality concerns and work closely with the Packhouse Supervisor to resolve issues.
- Collaborate with other Line Leaders and Supervisors, following standardised changeover procedures to minimise downtime.
- Accurately record daily line staff wages using Harvest Manager.
- Use Pack Star accurately for pallet building and production recording.
Personal Attributes & Working Conditions
- Proven ability to motivate and manage a team in a production or warehouse environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve operational issues such as equipment breakdowns or staffing challenges.
- Physically fit, with the ability to lift and carry loads of up to 20kg and stand for long periods.
- Comfortable working in a cold, humid, and noisy packhouse environment.
- Flexible with working hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and peak seasonal shifts.
- Able to work effectively with packers, Line Leaders, pump truck operators, and Supervisors.
- Familiarity with packing line equipment and processes.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality control standards.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
- Basic spoken English language skills required.
