Your role will be based in Manchester City Centre – office based. Talent Accountancy & Finance are partnered exclusively with an exceptional Manchester-based business to recruit their new Financial Controller. This is a senior, high-impact role at the centre of the finance function, combining hands-on control with insight-driven support to senior leadership. You’ll lead the team, strengthen controls, streamline processes and bring clarity to performance - with scope to progress into a Head of Finance as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of the day-to-day finance function, including management of an established finance team (c.10 heads)
- Production of consolidated monthly management accounts
- Strong automation focus, driving improvements to systems, controls and processes to streamline and shorten month-end close
- Strengthening financial controls and improving consistency across financial operations
- Supporting annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
- Oversight of balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and aged debtors/creditors
- Review, preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Leading the external audit process end-to-end
- Reviewing and reconciling statutory accounts and tax returns back to management accounts
- Regular interaction with senior stakeholders across the business, providing insight and financial clarity to support decision-making
- Acting as a senior finance partner to the FD and wider leadership team
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience operating at Financial Controller / Head of Finance level
- Proven people leader, comfortable managing and developing a varied finance team in a fast-paced environment
- Technically strong and highly analytical, with advanced Excel capability – confident working with large, complex data sets, including SQL-driven data (SQL query exposure advantageous)
- Hands-on and dependable under pressure at month-end, while retaining the ability to see the bigger picture
- Process-driven mindset, with a clear ambition to improve, automate and build a best-in-class finance function
- Confident communicator with a strong sense of ownership, able to partner effectively with senior and non-finance stakeholders
