Talbots is growing, and we’re excited to welcome a dynamic and personable Private Family Solicitor to work within our expanding team. If you’re a qualified Solicitor with at least two years of post‑qualification experience, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
In this role, you’ll work within the Family Law Department dealing predominantly with Domestic Violence, Private Children and Finances work. You will provide family law advice to clients, handling matters from initially instruction through to completion, working closely with your clients every step of the way.
This is a unique role in the way that you will be handling private family matters, however these will be funded through Legal Aid. This role will be based initially in our Dudley office, however, after successful integration into the team we can consider bases in other offices.

What does the job involve?
- To advise upon and conduct proceedings on a full range of predominantly Legally Aided matters.
- To secure the proper course of action and balanced and favourable judgements in cases relating to divorce, domestic violence, Children law / Children Act applications, emergency applications and orders, Special Guardianship and finances.
- Conduct advocacy on own matters and colleague’s matters if required.
- Take part in business development, specifically developing relationships with domestic violence charities.
- Assessing clients for Legal Aid and making Legal Aid applications via CCMS.
What do you need?
- To be a Qualified Solicitor with at least 2 years post qualified working experience within a Family Department handling Private Family Law matters.
- Candidates would preferably be familiar with LAA applications and assessments.
- Passionate about providing outstanding client care and service.
- Accurate and articulate in written and spoken communication with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent administrative, planning, organisation and time management as well as being proficient in a variety of IT software, including all MS Office applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
- Experience in advocacy, business development and networking.
