We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Compliance Officer to join our Environmental Services Team. You will be part of a skilled, supportive team responsible for monitoring, education and enforcement across the Waimakariri District.

You will:

  • Carry out monitoring and educational tasks under local bylaws and the Resource Management Act (RMA)
  • Respond to and investigate noise complaints
  • Monitor litter, nuisance, amusement devices, and environmental health risks
  • Conduct investigations, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records
  • Support public education on bylaws and regulatory responsibilities
  • Monitor and enforce parking timeframes and vehicle compliance

This is a full‑time, 40‑hours‑per‑week role, Monday to Friday, with some after‑hours work on occasion.

We’re looking for someone who is community‑minded, confident, and enjoys a role with plenty of variety. You will thrive in a team environment, remain calm under pressure, and be comfortable making decisions on the spot.

  • Strong customer‑service and interpersonal skills
  • Effective problem‑solving and conflict‑management ability
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office and enterprise systems)
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of a field‑based role, including regular walking and outdoor work
  • Strong communication and prioritisation abilities
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team

Training will be provided. You will also receive support to gain warranted officer authority under relevant Council bylaws, with safety protocols (including Lone Worker systems and Body Worn Cameras).
