Position Purpose

The Spray Painter is responsible for preparing and spraying a variety of metal products while following specifications for paint selection based on customer requirements.

The role applies industrial paint finishes to metal products using spray equipment and other equipment, preparing components through sanding and degreasing, mixing primers and paint colours, and completing finishing activities to achieve the required quality and appearance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Operate spray equipment or other equipment to apply industrial paint finishes on metal products.
  • Apply paint and primer to a variety of components using mixtures of primer and paint colours as specified by the customer.
  • Prepare units for finishing by sanding, degreasing, and completing other preparation activities as required.
  • Mix paint and other solutions, and monitor drying to ensure the desired result is achieved.
  • Complete finishing activities using baking, polishing, or other materials as required.
  • Paint items by hand where necessary to meet product and customer requirements.
  • Complete appropriate progress reports and documentation as required.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and follow company expectations for safe working practices.
  • Manage time effectively to support project and production schedules.
  • Maintain conscientious workmanship and high standards of finish quality.
  • Keep work areas, spray equipment, tools, and materials clean, organized, and safe.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A good all-around general education.
  • Good numeracy and mechanical skills, including understanding of numerical and mathematical calculations and data.
  • Knowledge of industrial paint techniques and how to prepare units for paint.
  • Experience using industrial paint equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Effective time and project management skills.
  • Adherence to health and safety policies.
  • Conscientious workmanship with strong attention to detail and high standards.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Time-served apprenticeship is desirable.
  • NVQ or CSCS certification is desirable.
  • Experience with stainless steel and/or aluminium would be advantageous.

Physical Demands

The role may require standing for extended periods, working with spray equipment, preparing metal components, sanding, degreasing, polishing, and using appropriate personal protective equipment required for painting and finishing work.

Work conditions of the role are

Work is performed in a manufacturing and paint shop environment.

The role may involve exposure to paint materials, fumes, dust, noise, tools, equipment, and changing production priorities.

All health and safety procedures must be followed.

  • Must be able to work safely in a paint shop or manufacturing environment and follow all safety precautions.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate PPE where required, including safety glasses, respiratory protection, gloves, hearing protection, safety shoes, and other PPE required by the location.
