The Electrical Assembly Apprentice will train to build, wire, and assemble electrical control panels, including Motor Control Centres (MCCs) and Junction Boxes. Working under supervision, the apprentice will develop skills in control panel fabrication, electrical wiring, component installation, testing, and compliance with electrical and safety standards.
Main responsibilities
- Control Panel & Enclosure Fabrication
- Assist in the fabrication and assembly of control panels, MCCs, MCRs, and junction boxes
- Prepare enclosures by drilling, cutting, tapping, and mounting backplates, trunking, and DIN rail
- Install electrical components such as contactors, relays, PLCs, VSDs, overloads, terminals, power supplies, and instrumentation
- Electrical Wiring & Assembly
- Wire control and power circuits in accordance with electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Carry out cable preparation, crimping, glanding, ferruling, and termination to industry standards
- Route and secure wiring neatly using trunking, cable ties, and identification systems
- Label cables, terminals, and components correctly
- Reading & Interpreting Documentation
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring schedules, and parts lists
- Follow build instructions, method statements, and quality documentation
- Testing & Quality Control
- Assist with continuity testing, insulation resistance testing, and functional checks
- Support panel inspection against drawings and specifications
- Record test results and build documentation accurately
- Rectify basic wiring faults under supervision
