Hoshi is a sweet but very typical Shiba Inu — essentially a cat in a dog's body. When she first joined our family, she was quite anxious, but we've worked closely with trainers and a behaviourist to help her build confidence. She is now a happy girl who enjoys a calm and predictable environment.
She is independent by nature and not a lap dog. Hoshi does not enjoy excessive petting, cuddling, or being kissed; if she wants affection, she will come to you on her own terms. During the day she is very low-maintenance and is perfectly content napping or doing her own thing.
Hoshi can be selective about the people and dogs she warms up to, and due to some difficult experiences as a puppy, she prefers homes without small children. She has a strong prey drive and absolutely loves chasing squirrels and foxes, so she must always be kept on a lead in unenclosed areas. She is also a bit of an escape artist, so a secure home and careful door management are important.
Overall, Hoshi is an easy, undemanding companion who thrives in a calm home where her independent personality is respected.
