We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist residential childcare provider for a Waking Night Residential Support Worker to join their dedicated team. This is a permanent, part-time opportunity working three nights per week, supporting vulnerable children and young people in a therapeutic residential setting.

Salary: £12.85 - £13.94 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)

About the Role

As a Waking Night Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and emotional support of children throughout the night. You will remain awake and alert during your shift, maintaining a calm, secure, and nurturing environment. You will be part of a therapeutic care model, supporting children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them feel safe, settled, and cared for during the night.

Key Responsibilities

  • Remain awake throughout the night to ensure the safety and security of the home
  • Carry out regular checks on children in line with care plans
  • Provide emotional reassurance and support if children wake or become distressed
  • Assist with night-time routines, helping children settle and maintain healthy sleep patterns
  • Undertake domestic duties (cleaning, laundry, stock checks) to maintain a homely environment
  • Support the administration of medication where required (following training)
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports using digital systems
  • Conduct health and safety and security checks across the property
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team, contributing to handover reports and care planning

About You

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Strong communicators with good written and IT skills
  • Organised, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure

Essential:

  • Awareness of residential childcare or similar care environments
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ability to work waking night shifts consistently

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a residential children's home or similar setting
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare (or willingness to work towards)
