The Company
An excellent opportunity for a Knitwear Product Developer to join a well-established supplier of ladies’ high fashion to wholesalers, independent outlets, retailers and stores throughout the UK and Europe. You will develop commercial, fashion‑forward ladies’ knitwear from initial concept through to production, working between design, the sample room and factories to deliver high‑quality, well‑fitting product on time and to cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design team in developing seasonal ladies’ knitwear ranges from brief to sealed sample, ensuring products are on trend, brand‑relevant and commercially viable.
- Translate design sketches into accurate tech packs, specifications and yarn/trim sheets suitable for UK and offshore suppliers.
- Work closely with the knitwear sample room to brief samples, check make‑up, and ensure prototypes are technically feasible and cost‑effective.
- Fit and comment on knitwear samples (1st fit through to pre‑production), updating measurements and construction details to achieve consistent fit and quality.
- Liaise daily with suppliers and factories (UK, Europe and offshore) on yarns, stitches, gauges, costs, lead times and technical queries.
- Track product critical paths, ensuring key dates for sampling, approvals and bulk are met, escalating any risks to delivery.
- Analyse sales and returns feedback to suggest improvements to yarns, fits, constructions and repeat styles.
- Ensure all knitwear styles comply with relevant testing, quality and safety standards in the UK and key export markets.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of yarn developments, knit technologies and sustainability initiatives relevant to knitwear.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in knitwear product development, technical knitwear or knitwear design within ladieswear (supplier or brand side).
- Strong understanding of knit structures, gauges, yarns, washing/finishing and how they impact fit, hand‑feel and cost.
- Competent in creating and updating detailed tech packs, specs and measurement charts (e.g. Excel, PLM, or similar systems).
- Confident in leading fit sessions, measuring garments and communicating clear technical comments to suppliers.
- Excellent communication skills to work cross‑functionally with design, technical, production and merchandising teams.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple styles and seasons in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency in relevant design/CAD software (e.g. Illustrator) is advantageous; experience in a Leicester‑based or East Midlands knitwear supplier is a plus.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in Fashion Design, Knitwear, Textile Technology or a related discipline preferred.
Full‑time role, based in Leicester with occasional travel to mills, trade shows and customer meetings.
Competitive salary depending on experience, plus standard company benefits.
