The Company
We are looking for a creative and commercially minded
Assistant Girlswear Designer to join a busy design team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for Jerseywear and trend-led fashion who is keen to develop their career within a fast-paced supplier environment.
The successful candidate will support the Girlswear accounts, while also assisting on selected Ladieswear jersey accounts.
Working closely with the Senior Designer, you will help create commercially strong, best-selling ranges tailored to the handwriting and customer profile of each retailer.
Key elements of role are as follows
- Supporting the Senior Designer in developing commercial jerseywear ranges for girlswear and selected ladieswear accounts.
- Researching and identify the latest fashion and retail trends, translating them into relevant design direction.
- Creating inspiring trend direction boards covering colour, shape, fabric and styling details.
- Conducting retailer-specific trend and competitor research to inform design decisions.
- Assisting in identifying new fabric developments and market opportunities, working closely with the factory team to realise fabric newness.
- Preparing for customer meetings by compiling research packs, CADs, fabric swatches and garment samples.
- Attending customer presentations and design meetings alongside the Designer, assisting with note-taking and follow-up actions.
- Drawing and amend CADs using Adobe Illustrator.
- Creating accurate and detailed tech packs following customer selection meetings.
- Working cross-functionally with UK and Pakistan teams to ensure all development queries are communicated clearly and efficiently.
- Tracking garment and fabric developments from concept through sampling stages.
- Helping maintain an organised and efficient design workspace and support the smooth running of the department.
Skills & Experience
Minimum 1 year of fashion design experience within girlswear, ladieswear or jerseywear, gained outside of a university placement year.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Fashion Design, Textile Design or a related subject.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the UK high-street market.
- Excellent research and trend interpretation skills.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop/In Design knowledge is advantageous
