We are looking for a caring and compassionate Support Assistant to join the team at Ty Parc, our new supported accommodation project in Abergavenny. This is a chance to be part of a new Taff service from the beginning and to help support five care‑experienced young people aged 16+ to make positive and sustainable changes in their lives.

What You’ll Do

  • Support care‑experienced young people aged 16+ as they transition from residential care to independence.
  • Support colleagues to enable and assist young people in meeting their goals.
  • Build positive relationships and use a “work‑with” approach to help young people achieve their goals and move on successfully into independent accommodation.
  • Work as part of a shift rota covering 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Follow agreed support plans, safety and risk plans designed to maintain young person safety.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience of working in supported housing, leaving care or a similar setting.
  • Understanding of working with people who may have complex support needs, trauma or experiences of instability.
  • Understanding of the impact of trauma and psychologically informed ways of working.
  • Knowledge of the Social Services and Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014.
  • The ability to respond in a calm and composed manner.
  • The ability to work on one’s own initiative, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to run workshops and sessions that support residents in achieving their goals and aspirations.
  • Up‑to‑date safeguarding and child protection understanding.
  • Willingness to work waking night shifts.
  • A positive approach to tackling project‑wide issues and responding positively to residents.
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflict.
