Turn deep hazardous-materials knowledge into training that keeps the emergency services safe. We are hiring a Hazmat Trainer to own our hazmat training - designing it, delivering it, and being the face of it to UK fire and rescue services. There are two ways into this role, and both are real: you might already train in a technical or hazmat field and want a bigger patch to run, or you might come from a strong chemistry or hazardous-materials background with a knack for explaining things, ready to grow into it with our backing. It is a proper technical subject and a responsible job, but it is learnable for the right person, and we will support you to get there. If you want the room to shape how a respected specialist company does this, read on.
Who we are
Tactical Hazmat is a small, expert UK training company. Our core work is hazmat training for the fire service - operational crews and specialist hazmat teams. We also deliver clandestine drug-lab training for police drug units and CBRN awareness training. We have a strong reputation for operationally grounded, no-nonsense delivery, and this role is central to keeping it that way. Hazardous-materials training for the UK emergency services is what we do.
The role
You will own our hazmat training - real, hands-on work that is yours to run. You will:
- Design, develop and deliver hazmat training for professional emergency-services audiences
- Build and run realistic live exercises and scenarios
- Develop course materials and blended/eLearning content
- Lead course evaluation and continuous improvement
- Represent Tactical Hazmat directly with fire and rescue service and police training leads
- Get up to speed on fire-service hazmat doctrine (JESIP, NFCC Hazmat Standard) if you are not already
- Over time, and with our support, extend into our police drug-lab and CBRN strands
What you need (essential)
- A strong chemistry / scientific or hazardous-materials foundation - enough to understand how these materials behave and to build accurate, credible training on it
- The ability to teach and hold a professional audience - whether you have already proven it in delivery, or you have clear aptitude for it and want to develop
- Course-design capability, or a genuine aptitude for building training (not just delivering someone else's)
- Willing and able to travel UK-wide, including overnight stays
- Right to work in the UK and willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
Nice to have (not required - we will develop the right person)
- Experience delivering hazmat or technical training to fire-service audiences (operational crews or specialist hazmat teams)
- Working knowledge of fire-service hazmat doctrine (JESIP, NFCC Hazmat Standard) - if you do not have it, you will pick it up here
- Experience delivering drug-awareness or clandestine drug-lab training to police (a strand we are actively growing)
- CBRN training experience
- eLearning authoring (Articulate 360/Rise or similar)
- Awarding-body centre-approval experience (RSPH, Highfield, NCFE or equivalent)
- A teaching qualification (AET/CET or equivalent)
- Existing SC clearance or prior vetting
Eligibility (please read before applying)
This is a UK-based role. You must already have the right to work in the UK - we are not able to offer visa sponsorship. The role requires an Enhanced DBS check before you start, and potentially SC-level vetting as the work develops, so you will need to be UK-resident. If that is you, we would love to hear from you.
What we offer
- £36,000 - £50,000 depending on experience, plus performance bonus
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Private medical (qualifying period applies)
- Mileage and expenses at HMRC rates for all client travel
- Room to grow - as you develop, the path is open towards Lead Instructor and Training Manager
- A role where your technical judgement is respected and your delivery shapes the company's reputation directly
How to apply
Send your CV and a short covering note to recruit@tacticalhazmat.com telling us:
- Your hazardous-materials and chemistry background - your training foundation, whichever route you are coming from
- Your training experience or, if you are newer to delivery, why you believe you have the aptitude to teach technical content
- Any fire-service, police drug-lab or CBRN experience (if you have it - not essential)
- Your right-to-work and vetting status, or confirmation you are willing to be vetted
We aim to acknowledge every application within ten working days. Tactical Hazmat Ltd is an equal opportunities employer. Appointments are made on merit and are conditional on satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance.
