Principal/ Lead Software Engineer - up to £140,000 + 10% bonus + Benefits + Newcastle City Centre

When you got into Software Engineering, it was to solve problems, write code and improve the way things are built. A lot of Principal roles slowly become less hands-on over time. Not here they don’t. You’ll still be a hands-on engineer, but you’ll also drift into teams helping shape technical direction, improve engineering standards and influence how things are done across the business. This isn’t a role where you sit away from the codebase. You’ll be solving complex problems, helping teams make better technical decisions and guiding engineers through difficult challenges.

You’ll be trusted to use the right technologies that fit the job. They use a variety of technologies here, ranging from:

  • C++
  • .NET
  • Rust
  • Java
  • Python

They are open to anyone who has worked within the above languages. Any exposure to a full-stack setting or AI/ML is desirable. You’ll be joining a team that cares about clean code, strong architecture and building systems properly, not just shipping things quickly. Flexibility is also a big part of the culture. School runs, hobbies, life outside of work, they’re happy to work around it. The salary is strong too - £100K is excellent money for a Principal role in the North East.
