Overview

Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for an Accredited Clinical Vascular Scientist (Band 7, link grade 8a) full-time position. The role involves performing all vascular ultrasound modalities including arterial duplex, venous reflux duplex, carotid duplex, EVAR, AAA surveillance and graft surveillance.

Responsibilities

  • To provide a quality scanning and reporting service in all aspects of vascular ultrasound for Ashford and St Peters Hospitals
  • To be involved with service delivery and service improvement for the benefit of the patient through audit and research
  • To maintain high clinical standards, particularly regarding patient care, clinical risk and Health and Safety
  • To liaise with other Health Care Professionals and departmental staff on a daily basis
  • To continue to develop one\’s own knowledge, practice and development through continued professional development
  • To participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control of the ultrasound equipment
  • To participate in the practical and theoretical training of student practitioners
  • To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff according to the Trusts\\\’ Health and Safety Policy

Pay and Conditions

Pay scheme: Agenda for Change; Band 7; Salary Β£50,008 to Β£56,908 per year (inc. HCAS); Contract: Permanent; Working pattern: Full-time; Location: St Peters Hospital, Guildford Road, Chertsey, KT16 0PZ.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • BSc Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent)
  • AVS (Accredited Vascular Scientist)
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Current Membership to Professional Body

Experience

  • Broad experience in vascular ultrasound scanning
  • Experience at writing reports
  • Experience in counselling, breaking bad news and referral of patients to tertiary centres
  • Familiar with radiology IT systems
  • General administrative duties within an ultrasound environment

Desirable

  • Experience in quality control
  • Experience in departmental audit
  • Experience in departmental administrative duties

Knowledge

  • NHS Constitution; Trust vision, values, strategic objectives and key work programmes
  • Thorough knowledge of normal anatomy, physiology and pathology of upper abdomen and pelvic examinations
  • Safe use of technical ultrasound equipment

Skills

  • Ability to interpret and describe ultrasound images accurately
  • Technical skills in scanner manipulation to optimise image resolution
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to give practical and theoretical training to students
