To lead, manage, and develop a high-quality early years provision that meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring outstanding care, learning, and development for all children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management
  • Provide strong leadership and direction to the nursery team
  • Manage staff recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisals, and performance
  • Lead by example, promoting a positive, professional, and inclusive culture
  • Ensure effective staff deployment and ratio compliance
  • Quality of Care & Education
    • Ensure delivery of high-quality early years education in line with EYFS
    • Monitor planning, observations, and assessments to support children’s development
    • Support staff in delivering engaging, child-centred learning experiences
    • Oversee inclusion and SEN support
  • Safeguarding & Compliance
    • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or ensure a DSL is in place
    • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare requirements are met
    • Maintain compliance with Ofsted and local authority regulations
    • Lead inspections and implement action plans following inspections
  • Parent & Partnership Engagement
    • Build strong relationships with parents and carers
    • Manage concerns and complaints in line with policies and procedures
    • Work in partnership with external agencies and professionals
  • Operational & Financial Management
    • Manage nursery budgets, occupancy, and resources effectively
    • Ensure accurate record-keeping and data protection compliance
    • Oversee policies, procedures, and risk assessments
    • Support marketing and nursery growth where required

    Requirements

    • Level 3 Early Years qualification (minimum); Level 5 or 6 desirable
    • Proven experience in a leadership or management role within early years
    • Strong knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding, and Ofsted requirements
    • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
    • Ability to manage staff performance and inspire high standards

    Desirable

    • Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or QTS
    • Paediatric First Aid qualification
    • Experience managing budgets and occupancy
