Business Development Manager – Logistics / Supply Chain Luton / Bedfordshire – Field Based, Southern Territory £45,000 Basic + 10% Annual Bonus + Company Car + Benefits
Are you a proven Business Development Manager who loves winning new customers and developing business from scratch? Do you have experience selling within logistics, supply chain, transport, distribution, FMCG, foodservice, packaging, retail or manufacturing? We are recruiting for a highly successful international organisation looking to appoint a talented Business Development Manager to develop its Southern territory. This is a field-based position covering the South of England and South Midlands. You don't need to live in Luton itself, although you'll ideally be based within Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire or the surrounding area and be comfortable travelling throughout the territory.
The Opportunity
If you're looking for a role where you're simply handed an established customer portfolio to manage, this probably isn't the one for you! We're looking for somebody who genuinely enjoys new business development – identifying opportunities, approaching prospective customers, getting meetings in the diary and turning conversations into commercial relationships. You'll target organisations across sectors including FMCG, retail, food & beverage, manufacturing, distribution and logistics, developing relationships with key decision-makers and helping them identify more efficient and commercially beneficial ways of operating. This is a consultative sales role where understanding the customer's business is just as important as closing the deal.
What You'll Be Doing
- Proactively identifying and targeting new customers across your territory
- Building and managing a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities
- Generating leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, LinkedIn and market research
- Arranging customer meetings and site visits
- Developing relationships with procurement, operational and senior commercial decision-makers
- Understanding customers' supply chain and operational challenges
- Presenting tailored commercial solutions
- Preparing proposals and negotiating agreements
- Managing opportunities from initial contact through to close
- Developing business within FMCG, retail, foodservice, manufacturing, logistics and distribution
- Maintaining accurate CRM, forecasting and pipeline information
- Managing your own diary and territory with a high degree of autonomy
About You
We're much more interested in what you've achieved than what's written underneath your name on LinkedIn. You could currently be a Business Development Manager, Territory Sales Manager, Field Sales Executive, Sales Executive, Account Manager or National Account Manager. What we're looking for is evidence that you can create your own opportunities, develop relationships from scratch and win new customers. Previous experience within logistics, transport, supply chain, distribution, pallets, pallet pooling, packaging, FMCG, foodservice, retail or manufacturing would certainly be useful, but it isn't essential. If you're an exceptional B2B salesperson from another sector with a strong new business track record, we'd still like to hear from you.
You'll need to be:
- A genuine new business hunter
- Confident prospecting and approaching new customers
- Comfortable arranging and attending face-to-face meetings
- An excellent relationship builder
- Commercially astute and consultative in your approach
- Confident negotiating with senior decision-makers
- Self-motivated and organised
- Comfortable managing a large field-based territory
- A full UK driving licence holder
What's On Offer?
- £45,000 basic salary
- 10% annual bonus
- Company car
- Excellent benefits package
- Home/field-based working
- Excellent training and support
- Established international organisation
- Genuine long-term career opportunities
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious salesperson who wants the autonomy of a field-based new business role with the backing and credibility of a major international organisation. If you love the challenge of finding opportunities, winning business and building long-term customer relationships, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today for immediate consideration.
