Specifications Technologist Coventry | £ Competitive + excellent benefits | Permanent | Full Time

Specifications people... this one is for you. We're looking for someone who knows Specs. Someone who can look at a product specification and spot the thing that doesn't quite add up. Someone who notices the spelling mistake everyone else has read past three times. Someone who checks rather than assumes, questions rather than blindly processes, and takes genuine pride in getting the detail right.

T2P Recruitment is working confidentially with an established Coventry-based food business looking for an experienced Specifications Technologist to join its Technical team. This isn't a role where you'll spend every hour of every day doing exactly the same thing.

So, what will you actually be doing? Yes, there are specifications. You'll work across retailer and own-brand product specifications, dealing with areas including:

  • recipes
  • nutritional information
  • allergens
  • ingredients
  • raw materials
  • microbiological information
  • packaging

But that's only part of it. You'll also get involved with:

  • artwork and pack copy
  • product testing
  • supplier technical information
  • certificates and policies
  • packaging and sustainability data
  • retailer requirements

Some periods are Specs-heavy. Other times you'll be working on testing, reporting, sustainability or wider Technical projects. Variety is a big part of the attraction.

What are we looking for? First and foremost, somebody with genuine specification writing experience. Retailer/private-label food experience would be particularly attractive, and if you've worked with systems such as Find, WPP, Evolve, Hive, TQC or Wave, we'd definitely like to hear from you. But please don't decide you're unsuitable because you haven't used every system on that list. You absolutely don't need to have.

If you understand retailer specifications, can navigate technical systems and have the ability to learn another platform, we'd rather have the conversation. Food industry experience is preferred, but we're equally interested in what you can actually do, rather than ticking boxes for the sake of it. A Food Science/HND or related qualification would be advantageous, but again, experience matters. If you've spent years doing the job brilliantly without ever setting foot inside a university lecture theatre, please don't let that stop you applying.

The bit that's really important... You're going into a small, genuinely close-knit Technical team. They work hard. They help each other. They have a laugh. And when one person is up against it, everybody gets stuck in. So we're looking for somebody who wants to be part of that. You'll need to be naturally inquisitive, conscientious and comfortable taking responsibility for your own work. Because in Specs, 'that'll probably do' really doesn't cut it.

The package includes a competitive salary, depending upon experience, alongside a strong benefits package. The role is based in Coventry and you should consider this fundamentally an office-based position. There is currently scope for up to two home-working days within the team after probation, but flexibility to attend the office when required is essential. You'll also receive 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, your birthday off when it falls on a working day, pension and, following probation, benefits including private medical healthcare, life insurance and income protection.

Interested? The recruitment process is moving quickly, so we aren't going to sit collecting CVs for three weeks before doing anything with them. If you're good, we want to talk to you. This appointment is being handled confidentially by T2P Recruitment, so if you're currently employed and simply curious about what else might be out there, that's absolutely fine. Send us your CV and we'll tell you the bits we can't tell you here.
