About the Role: The Senior Creative is a hybrid role, blending strong conceptual thinking with very good design skills. You will be responsible for developing and executing innovative visual solutions across various platforms for The Sun. You will work as a creative team with a copywriter, contributing to the development of campaigns that are both strategically impactful and visually compelling. This role requires a strong understanding of design principles, brand guidelines, and the ability to build presentations and adapt your skills to different media channels. You will be encouraged to leverage the full capabilities of WPP Open to deliver seamless, multi‑platform creative experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Conceptualisation & Ideation: Contribute to brainstorming and sprint sessions to develop original creative concepts that align with client objectives and brand strategy. Translate strategic insights and data into visually compelling ideas, demonstrating a strong understanding of the target audience and their motivations. Push creative boundaries and challenge conventional thinking to develop innovative and unexpected solutions. Generate creative concepts for each project, exploring a range of visual styles and approaches.
- Design Execution & Visual Storytelling: Develop high‑quality visual designs for a variety of marketing materials, including digital ads, social media content, print collateral and video assets. Create visually engaging mockups to communicate creative concepts effectively, showcasing the power of visual storytelling. Ensure all designs are optimised for different media channels.
- WPP Open Integration & Creative Innovation: Collaborate cross‑functionally to leverage the full capabilities of WPP Open, ensuring its integration into every aspect of our creative projects. This includes accessing and leveraging audience data and insights from WPP Open and its network to inform design decisions and creative concepts. Collaborate with specialist design talent and agents within Open to enhance the quality and innovation of our work. Utilise WPP’s technology platforms and tools to streamline design workflows and improve efficiency. Share best practices and learnings with other WPP agencies to elevate the overall design output of the network. Foster a dynamic and agile environment that continuously embraces technological advancements, ensuring maximum output and effectiveness across the entire content supply chain network.
- Brand Guardianship: Develop a deep understanding of The Sun, including its visual identity, tone of voice and target audiences. Ensure all designs adhere to brand guidelines and maintain a consistent brand experience across all channels. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of brand guidelines and visual standards.
- Continuous Learning & Development: Stay up‑to‑date with the latest design trends, software and technologies. Seek out opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills through training, workshops and industry events. Share your expertise with team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Proven experience as an Art Director / Creative within a creative agency.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative concepts, demonstrating a blend of artistic talent and strategic thinking.
- Excellent visual communication and storytelling abilities.
- Strong proficiency in Figma, including designing with and utilising auto layout and components, and experience working with and contributing to a design system.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects).
- Solid understanding of design principles, typography and layout.
- Familiarity with digital media channels and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to present ideas in a visually engaging manner.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
