The Equity Research Associate Analyst provides key leverage to Investment Analysts and Portfolio Managers, enhancing their research and investment decisions, with a focus on the Financials sector. The successful candidate will work closely with more senior investors, in a position to learn as an ‘apprentice’, but also allowing personal growth as an investor. The position will involve in-depth company due diligence, typically including building and maintaining financial models, management meetings and field trips, pursuit and analysis of other relevant market and sector data.
The successful candidate should have a grounding in financial modelling coupled with a keen interest and passion for investing and be able to prepare and present investment conclusions in a clear fashion. High potential Associate Analysts are typically given more responsibility over time and some may become senior investors in the firm.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIESHandles various projects to help Investment Analysts and Portfolio Managers be more effective in their investment decisions. These can include:
- In-depth industry and security analysis; managing stock watch lists and generating ideas; quantitative and qualitative screening; building comp sheets; alternative data analysis.
- Design and iterate AI-enabled research workflows (prompt libraries, retrieval systems, automation) to give the team more time for judgment and synthesis.
- Builds and maintains models of corporate financial statements, developing future assumptions to assess potential company earnings and/or cash flow.
- Evaluates corporate financial statement outputs to assess the worth of the company using multiple techniques such as discounted cash flow analysis, ratio analysis and other valuation techniques.
- Participates in conference calls to review companies' quarterly earnings and in company meetings and quickly assimilates the information to assist the Analysts in their investment decisions.
- Produces written research on companies and industries and helps with presentation of ideas.
- Academic excellence.
- 2+ professional experience ideally from investment management, sell-side equity research, investment banking or private equity.
- Proven and demonstrable interest in investing.
- AI fluency: practical experience using AI tools to improve research productivity, including custom GPTs, retrieval-augmented workflows, and agentic task automation.
- Strong interest and knowledge of financial markets, especially Equities.
- Strong and demonstrable financial analysis including accounting and financial modelling skills.
- Strong communication, both oral and in writing, and good interpersonal skills.
- Progress towards CFA qualification is an advantage.
- Competitive nature.
- Experience with market data services (ex. Factset, Bloomberg etc.).
