The primary purpose of the Compliance Assistant will be to support the EMEA Compliance Department in the effort to ensure that the operations of T. Rowe Price comply with relevant legislation and regulation. The Associate will have the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the firm’s compliance program in order to develop the foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to develop a career in Compliance.

The Compliance Assistant will develop:

  • An understanding of the financial services regulatory environment in the UK and Europe and how this impacts the way in which investment firms can do business.
  • An understanding of the role an asset manager plays in the financial services industry, the types of products and investment services that are offered, the roles of the different areas within our organisation and how we all work together to deliver good outcomes for our customers.
  • An understanding of the policies and procedures that investment firms implement to comply with the regulatory framework.
  • Research techniques and problem-solving skills individually and collaboratively, in order to assist ongoing project work and advising the business as issues arise.
  • Strong communication skills; drafting clear and concise memos and reports, building strong working relationships with colleagues in the department and the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily work with colleagues in the Compliance Advisory team to support the firm’s compliance framework and help ensure that business activities conducted within the Europe, Africa and Middle East (“EMEA”) region complies with relevant laws and regulations including but not limited to:
  • Provide support in responding to Code of Ethics and Conduct related matters, including addressing queries on personal trading, conflicts of interest and the receipt of giving or gifts and entertainment;
  • Deliver Compliance induction training to new associates joining the firm;
  • Support the administration and roll out of new compliance training initiatives within the department, including maintaining training materials and records;
  • Maintain compliance registers, records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, complete and up to date;
  • Support licensing (at the corporate and individual level), registrations and record-keeping activities, including maintaining information relating to UK Senior Managers and Certification Staff;
  • Assist with the preparation of periodic and ad hoc regulatory reporting for the firm and maintaining the firm’s regulatory filings calendar;
  • Provide standard reporting information that feeds into Board papers;
  • Review and respond to internal stakeholders on client certifications, and routine due diligence requests and RFPs;
  • Monitor the firm’s errors, breaches and incidents reporting system for new and updated entries and support with the assessment of whether there is a regulatory impact for Compliance to record;
  • Assist the Compliance Managers with regulatory research, utilizing various resources including regulatory publications and rulebooks, industry association briefings and publications, and AI where appropriate;
  • Escalate business queries to Compliance Advisory colleagues and assist with gathering information required for responses;
  • Support the firm’s Designated Individuals with the Market Soundings processes;
  • Assist with the review and processing of market soundings and confidential information requests from brokers;
  • Assist with making additions to and removals from the firm’s Restricted List;
  • Assist with ad hoc queries, issues and investigations;
  • Assist with maintaining policies and procedures and updating documentation as directed;
  • Support team or firm-wide project activities and maintain project documentation.

From time to time, work with other teams within the EMEA Compliance Department to develop a sound understanding of the broader Compliance initiatives and assist in delivering the department’s wider objectives, including working with:

  • the Compliance Monitoring team to assist in the execution of the Compliance Monitoring Program – where the team look to ensure the various business units have acted in line with local jurisdictional regulations and company policies;
  • the Global Communications Compliance with research and development of rules of the road covering the firm’s services and distribution activities across the region;
  • the Global Financial Crime Compliance team to support the delivery of the firm’s financial crime compliance framework;

Requirements:

  • GCSE’s and A Levels/Apprenticeship Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of Compliance support experience or in a similar supporting role
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to adapt to changing work priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic with a ‘roll your sleeves up’ attitude
  • Willingness for further study

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to one day a week from home.
