In this role you will lead system safety and interoperability efforts for the Old Oak Common Station project, ensuring regulatory compliance and robust assurance across design, construction, and commissioning. You will coordinate with HS2, Network Rail, and regulatory bodies to manage hazard records and safety evidence, guiding multi-disciplinary teams through complex challenges. You will implement CSM-RA and Railway Interoperability Regulations, shaping safety deliverables and assurance reports. You will mentor the System Safety Team and deliver targeted training to stakeholders, driving safe, compliant project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of system safety and interoperability compliance across a major infrastructure programme
- Coordinate with clients and regulators (HS2, Network Rail, ORR) to secure endorsements and satisfy regulatory requirements
- Plan and manage complex safety delivery, including phased entry into service and multi-operator environments
- Align safety and interoperability activities with Technical Assurance and project resources
- Manage the System Safety and Interoperability Team and project Hazard Records
- Collate evidence of safety and interoperability compliance and assess change from a safety perspective
- Provide system safety training and workshops for internal and external stakeholders
- Lead safety requirement and hazard reviews (HAZID/HazOp) and promote Design Risk Management
- Advise on CSM-RA, Interoperability, and regulatory requirements relevant to project delivery
- Maintain key documents (System Safety Plans, Hazard Records, HAZID reports, Safety Justification)
Key requirements
- Experience delivering major infrastructure projects across life-cycle stages
- Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience
- Applied knowledge of CSM-RA and RIR in large multi-disciplinary environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-team collaboration
- Facilitation experience of System Safety activities including training and workshops
- Experience with DOOR for safety records/management
- Experience with systems engineering beyond System Safety and Interoperability
- Ability to work with regulatory bodies (Office of Rail and Road)
- Understanding of UK railway design standards and CDM 2015
- Chartered status
- Experience with construction activities and regulatory compliance
