The purpose of the Director (Consultancy) role is to support delivery of the strategy for the relevant business area by:
- Leading on winning and successfully delivering Consultancy project work;
- Developing the capabilities of our colleagues to continuously improve the breadth, quality and flexibility of services we offer to our clients;
- Contributing positively and proactively to the continuous improvement of internal structures and processes which best serve the needs of our business and our clients.
Missions / Main Duties

- Business Development: Lead on identifying and maximising opportunities for securing future work for your business area through identification of suitable bid & proposal opportunities, cross‑selling and up‑selling.
- Bids and Proposals: Lead on successful high value bids and proposals (>£200k) by ensuring that the SYSTRA bid team are clear on the client acceptance criteria, that our solution is fully aligned to client requirements, that pricing and invoicing milestones are appropriate; providing technical input to bids relevant to your area(s) of expertise.
- Project Director: Lead on large projects/packages of work (>£200k) or a portfolio of work of >£500k value ensuring that client objectives are understood and that projects deliver on agreed objectives, on time and within budget and in accordance with legal and contractual requirements and internal procedures.
- Accountability for the delivery and/or financial management of a significant portfolio of work aligned to SYSTRA’s current or future markets.
- Technical Leadership: Proactively sharing technical knowledge internally and support colleagues in developing technical knowledge in your area of expertise; Writing/contributing to articles/papers and presenting at industry events relevant to your area(s) of expertise to promote SYSTRA capabilities and support the development of best practice.
- Lead a team/sector, or undertake a leadership role in a local office, role modelling expected behaviours and providing support and guidance to people managers within the team/sector/office.
- Lead on ensuring that internal and external processes and procedure applicable to your business area are understood and adhered to.
- Proactively manage backlog and workflow for your team or sector.
Profile / Skills
- Skills: Development Planning, Project Management, Client Management, Business Development, Willingness to travel.
- Knowledge: Demonstrable knowledge of relevant industry legislation, guidance and best practice. Extensive relevant technical knowledge. Detailed knowledge of the consultancy business model and factors driving high performance in a consultancy environment.
- Experience: Extensive experience of leading complex and high value projects/project portfolios in a comparable organisation. Extensive experience of leading on private sector Development Planning Projects. Substantial experience of ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, guidance and best practice. Experience of mentoring and developing colleagues to achieve high performance.
- Qualifications: Relevant degree qualification or equivalent. Relevant chartership or professional qualification.
