The key responsibility for a Principal Digital Engineer is to support the Alliance BIM Manager/Digital Engineering Manager. The Digital Engineer is required to possess strong computer CAD/BIM and technical skills to support and oversee the management of 4D/3D/2D dimensional models, technical and quality checking and control, coordination and constructability analysis.
Missions/Main Duties
- Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Principal Digital Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:
- Support the Design Integration Team, BIM Production Manager, GIS Specialists and Production Team(s) in day-to-day Design implementation activities.
- Manage and coordinate 4D model to demonstrate constructability and coordination of permanent works, temporary works, site layouts, crane plans, haul road as required to resolve spatial and chronological coordination issues and to support and develop the use of 4D more commonly within the team.
- Develop and manage the Interface Coordination 4D model in Synchro Control.
- Provide progress and performance updates to Digital Engineering Manager on a fortnightly and monthly basis.
- Review and coordinate BIM data from designers, subcontractors and third parties for temporary works and temporary & permanent utilities.
- Monitor and coordinate temporary works design and construction sequence interfaces, in the project 3D environment to resolve spatial and chronology coordination issues.
- Produce models/drawings where required from existing data or produce such data in accordance with project requirements.
- Support, perform and integrate BIM and Information Management activities within Design Integration and Quality Assurance Teams.
- Record, store and maintain all formal correspondences related to BIM, Quality and Coordination activities.
- Support the deployment (hardware and software), troubleshooting and provide hands-on BIM/CAD software training for Project team members.
- Ensure model(s) are delivered in accordance with the agreed level of detail, information need, TIDP, MIDP and CDE protocol.
- Perform quality assurance and control checks on models and ensure geometrical, non-geometrical information and technical compliance with the Project requirements and reporting.
- Export, federate, perform clash detection, and provide visual walkthroughs of models for reporting and presentation purposes.
- Review, monitor and report on the development of clash interference and fully coordinated models.
- Support BIM and CAD models including 2D deliverables compliance with the project safety standards and CDM regulations and supporting the identification and mitigation of hazards in designs.
- Providing training and guidance for the less experienced members.
Profile/Skills
- Proficient in a range of authoring, scripting, design review, coordination, simulations and collaboration applications e.g. Microstation, AECOsim, Open Roads, Power Rail, Navigator, ProjectWise, etc.
- Proven experience in Design or Construction.
- Demonstrable 4D model experience.
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary Design workflows and understanding of BIM and CAD production and coordination process.
- Excellent experience with either International and/or British BIM and CAD Standards and Project implementation.
- Possess excellent English written skills.
- Possess excellent English oral communication skill with an ability to form effective relationships with Project delivery team, Client and Contractor under time pressure.
- Excellent working knowledge of all PC based Windows environments and Microsoft Office suite.
- Background either from a Consultant or Contractor on Infrastructure Transportation Project.
