Context

We are seeking an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer to support the delivery of engineering work across assigned projects, ensuring technical compliance, quality assurance and safe-by-design outcomes. Working under the supervision of senior engineers, you will undertake defined tasks and work packages, contributing to engineering deliverables, small-scale project delivery and the development of your technical and professional capability.

Missions/Main Duties

• Support the delivery of geotechnical engineering work across a range of projects, helping to produce high-quality, safe and technically robust solutions.
• Prepare a range of technical outputs, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and supporting documentation.
• Contribute to bids, studies and project work by providing clear and accurate technical input.
• Apply sound engineering principles, methods and tools appropriate to your level of experience and development.
• Review your work carefully to ensure it is accurate, complete and aligned with relevant standards, procedures and project requirements.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues from across disciplines to help develop coordinated and effective design solutions.
• Identify technical issues, constraints, assumptions and risks, escalating these appropriately to senior engineers or project managers.
• Support the delivery of safe-by-design solutions by applying health, safety and risk management principles in your day-to-day work.
• Assist in developing practical engineering solutions that balance quality, programme, cost and safety considerations.
• Prepare clear technical correspondence and project records to support effective communication and delivery.
• Build positive working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, contributing to successful project outcomes.
• Contribute positively to SYSTRA's collaborative culture by demonstrating behaviours aligned with our values and ways of working.

Profile/Skills

• A degree, or equivalent qualification, in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Some experience in a geotechnical engineering or design environment, ideally gained while working under the guidance of senior engineers.
• An understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, with awareness of how related disciplines can influence design development.
• Experience producing technical deliverables such as reports, drawings, calculations or specifications to a high standard.
• Familiarity with relevant engineering software, digital tools, modelling applications and Common Data Environments.
• An awareness of information management requirements and standards, including ISO 19650 principles where relevant.
• A developing understanding of commercial factors such as budgets, programmes and delivery timescales.
• The ability to review data, identify key information and draw clear, evidence-based conclusions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams and wider project stakeholders.
• A proactive and collaborative approach, with a willingness to learn, develop and take ownership of assigned tasks.
• Progress towards professional registration, or an interest in working towards EngTech, IEng or CEng, would be an advantage.
