Context We currently have an opportunity for an Assistant CDM Engineer to join our growing System Safety team. This role is suited for an Engineer eager to deepen their knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) and System Safety Engineering, supporting a key project within SYSTRA’s portfolio. The role will be fully supported by the SYSTRA System Safety Team, with training and mentoring provided to develop the successful candidate. Main Duties As an Assistant CDM Engineer, your responsibilities include: Collaborating with SYSTRA and client projects to support the System Safety team, ensuring CDM is applied efficiently and compliantly. Assisting Principal Designers in their duties while gaining practical experience. Monitoring and inspecting projects to report on compliance, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement. Supporting Hazard Identification, Hazard Review, and Hazardous Operations Workshops. Promoting effective Design Risk Management across the company. Working with the Systems team to understand practical CDM application during the design phase, focusing on risk and hazard management. Contributing to business development and process improvements through collaboration with other disciplines. Producing key CDM documents such as Hazard Records and Pre-Construction Information. Advising on System Safety and participating in Safe by Design initiatives. Profile/Skills Basic understanding of CDM management in a multi-disciplinary project environment, with a willingness to develop further. Effective communication skills and ability to support a growing Systems Team. Good workload management skills, capable of working independently and in teams. Ability to foster cooperation among project teams. Membership or progression towards membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable. Ideally, +2 years’ experience in the railway industry within a design setting. Understanding of railway engineering and operational design, with experience in rail system construction, operation, or maintenance is desirable but can be introduced during training. Why SYSTRA?
