We currently have an opportunity for a Senior MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls and Automation) Engineer to join our engineering team. This position within our M&E engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to play their part in a dynamic high‑performance team.
Missions / Main Duties
- Lead and contribute to the design and integration of projects, ensuring client commitments are met and delivering against quality, time and budget.
- Monitor project team performance against contractual obligations and quality, making appropriate corrective interventions.
- Manage the checking and approval process to ensure compliance with client, project and SYSTRA processes, including the preparation and checking of engineering designs and calculations, and take responsibility for the management of design production.
- Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team.
- Act as the Work Package Manager on small to medium sized projects.
- Apply working knowledge of all technical standards relevant to the discipline.
- Assist where required in work winning and marketing to maximise team and company opportunities.
- Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff and others affected by SYSTRA operations throughout the design lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Contribute to company‑wide goals and business improvement.
- Perform any other duties as required.
People Management
- Effectively manage, plan, lead and motivate direct reports, inspiring everyone to reach their full potential.
- Apply procedures, initiatives and systems to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the team.
- Support, contribute to and recommend training for direct reports that develops their skills and experience to meet current and future skill requirements.
- Review and monitor staff performance via the formal appraisal process and other informal approaches, e.g. 121s.
Profile / Skills – General
- Considerable expertise in own discipline to manage complex or non‑standard solutions.
- Demonstrable skills of effective communication across multiple levels and stakeholders to present and discuss proposals, justifications and conclusions.
- Experience as a line manager is desirable.
- Experience in working with offshore production centres is desirable.
- Proficient working on multi‑discipline projects.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering business results through effective planning and implementation.
- Experience of project planning, delivery, budgets and timescales.
- Have achieved IEng or equivalent and show demonstrable progress towards chartered status with a professional body/institute such as ICE, IET, IMechE or equivalent.
Profile / Skills – Specific
- Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical design such as pumps, motor control centres (MCCs), screening equipment, low‑voltage electrical systems, motor control, electrical protection systems, PLCs, SCADA, telemetry and automation systems.
- Significant experience of undertaking design and delivery of projects within water, wastewater or similar process‑driven environments (chemical, food, petrochemical, pharmaceutical).
- Good knowledge of producing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and complying with UK water industry standards.
- Significant experience with WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications) and pumping system control philosophies.
- Good knowledge of HAZOP, HAZCON and ALM processes.
- Good understanding of The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 2002.
- Qualification: HNC or equivalent.
