The Senior Consultant will utilise their depth of experience to efficiently and comprehensively support the safe delivery of work packages, projects and proposal development, primarily across the Rail Advisory Team but working collaboratively across teams and projects as required. This role will play a key part in shaping our business by contributing to high-profile projects providing rail commercial/technical advice, modelling and demand forecasting. You will combine strong technical expertise and data analysis skills with client engagement and business development skills, helping to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients while supporting the growth of our people and our business. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and meaningful transport projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and make a visible contribution to innovative and sustainable transport solutions.

Missions / Main Duties

  • Proactively support the successful delivery of projects of varying scale, for a range of SYSTRA teams and clients, as required.
  • Take ownership of the delivery of small to medium value proposals, ensuring clear scope, acceptance criteria and invoicing milestones.
  • Contribute to larger proposals and help coordinate business development activity.
  • Ensure complex technical tasks are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced colleagues, supporting both their technical and professional development.
  • Take responsibility for elements of SYSTRA reports.
  • Effectively communicate technical and project information clearly to clients and colleagues to support project delivery, learning and business growth.
  • Delivery of modelling and analysis using rail data, including related to passenger demand, revenue, fares, and crowding.
  • Effectively develop and maintain strong relationships with DfT, Network Rail, rail operators and other relevant clients.
  • Identify and initiate sales opportunities and share market insight with colleagues.

Profile / Skills

  • Experience delivering analytical or modelling projects using rail data, including demand and revenue forecasting, operational performance modelling, economic appraisal, and rail commercial/financial analysis.
  • Track record of effective team working.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capable of building credibility with both clients and colleagues.
  • Excellent presentation, written and numerical skills.
  • The ability to manage your own time effectively and support others in doing the same.
  • A strong understanding of rail demand forecasting methodologies, particularly PDFH, and expertise using MOIRA and/or MOIRA2.
  • A strong track record in delivering robust analytical outputs to inform decision making for clients such as rail operators, DfT, Network Rail, and the Office of Rail and Road.
  • Experience of rail demand forecasting research techniques.
  • Project management experience in a client-facing environment.
  • A degree in a relevant subject.
