Job Summary
The Unified Communications & Collaboration Engineer supports the design, implementation, operation, and sustainment of complex communication and systems infrastructure. Works under general direction and collaborates across engineering, network, and operations teams to ensure performance, reliability, security, and integration of voice, data, and unified communications systems.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Administer and maintain chat (IRC, M-Link/XMPP, XCB), email (Domino/CAS), and VOIP & Call Manager systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot file transfer solutions (CTERA, GEMBOX, FTP).
- Support integration and modernization of collaboration platforms across enclaves.
- Partner with other Agile teams to implement Zero Trust controls.
- Deliver technical documentation and fleet training on collaboration services.
- Assist in the design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of unified communications and network systems (VoIP, PBX, IP telephony, video conferencing, messaging services).
- Monitor system performance, identify issues and opportunities for improvement, and resolve faults or bottlenecks.
- Participate in system integration and testing efforts, documenting test plans, results, and corrective actions.
- Support configuration management of system hardware, firmware, and software, including patching and upgrades.
- Work with telecommunications vendors and internal stakeholders to plan capacity upgrades or new service rollouts.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support and escalation for communications and infrastructure issues, including onsite or remote remediation.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation: architecture diagrams, process flows, operations manuals, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure systems meet security, compliance, and operational requirements; may support accreditation or audit activities for communication systems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience with Exchange, Domino, Call Manager, or XMPP systems.
- Knowledge of DISA UC standards and DoD network security practices.
- IAT Level II (Security+ CE or equivalent).
- 5+ years in Navy or DoD C4I messaging or unified communications systems.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team; ready for occasional travel or onsite support as required.
- Proven problem-solving abilities with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills: able to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Certifications
IAT Level II (Security+ CE or equivalent).
Clearance Requirement
Secret (eligible for TS/SCI)
