Reports to: Eveline Speelman, Global Energy Platform Lead
Role Overview
Systemiq is seeking a Director in power system transformation to shape and deliver high-impact work across the energy transition work, with a focus on power system transformation, including grids, system integration, and the evolving role of utilities in enabling system-level transformation. This is a senior leadership role combining:
- Top-tier strategy problem solving
- Origination and client leadership
- Delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder programmes
You will work closely with Eveline Speelman and global partners to tackle critical system bottlenecks—particularly around grids, system integration, and the role of utilities in enabling decarbonisation. The role also requires an understanding of how AI and digital tools are reshaping analytical and advisory work, and how these can be applied to improve insight generation and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advisory
- Lead high-impact strategy engagements with corporates, governments, and investors on energy transition topics
- Structure and solve complex, ambiguous problems and translate them into actionable recommendations
- Advise senior stakeholders (C-suite, policymakers) on transition pathways and strategic decisions
- Systems Change & Platform Leadership
- Shape and drive system-level interventions beyond individual projects (e.g. coalitions, market-shaping initiatives, public-private collaboration)
- Identify and act on structural bottlenecks to the energy transition (policy, infrastructure, market design)
- Work across sectors and stakeholders to unlock system-wide impact beyond project-level outcomes
- System-Level Delivery
- Lead programmes addressing key transition challenges, including:
- Power systems and grid constraints
- Market design and regulatory frameworks
- Integration of renewables and flexibility
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, insight-driven outputs with real-world impact
- Origination & Growth
- Identify, shape, and win new work across the energy system
- Build trusted relationships with senior clients and partners
- Contribute to scaling Systemiq’s energy platform globally
- Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor high-performing teams
- Coach and develop team members, building capability in both analytical problem solving and systems-level thinking
- Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial culture
Candidate Profile
A high-calibre, strategy-led leader with strong energy transition expertise and the ability to operate at the intersection of strategy, policy, and real-economy delivery.
Essential Experience
- ~10–15+ years experience in strategy consulting or similarly high-performance environments
- Proven track record in leading strategy engagements and senior client relationships
- Experience working on energy transition topics, ideally combining advisory and real-world implementation (e.g. utilities, system operators, infrastructure, or industry)
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders (C-suite / government)
Core Capabilities
- Exceptional problem structuring and rigour
- Ability to move between strategy and implementation
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Commercial mindset with experience in origination and growth
- Systems thinker focused on practical, scalable, real-world outcomes
- Ability to leverage AI and digital tools to enhance problem solving, insight generation, and delivery efficiency
Mindset
- Entrepreneurial and opportunity driven
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building new areas of work
- Collaborative, low ego, and mission-driven
Experience in international energy systems, infrastructure investment, or large-scale transition programmes is a plus.
