Role Overview
SYSTEMIQ is seeking a Director to lead and expand our global sustainable finance portfolio, with a strong emphasis on designing and scaling catalytic and blended finance instruments. This is a mission‑critical leadership role with global influence, responsible for shaping innovative financial frameworks and mobilising capital—particularly from private sector financial institutions and investors—to accelerate just, low‑carbon, and inclusive transitions worldwide.
The Director will provide thought leadership, take an active role in shaping project opportunities, spearhead high‑impact projects, and cultivate senior‑level partnerships. By structuring and deploying catalytic finance solutions in collaboration with banks, institutional investors, corporates, and public finance institutions—and by shaping enabling policy and market design—they will ensure SYSTEMIQ delivers practical, scalable outcomes for country and sector transitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Thought Leadership & Platform Growth: Shape and deliver SYSTEMIQ's sustainable finance strategy, with catalytic/blended finance as a central pillar for enabling country transitions and systemic change.
- Design & Implementation of Catalytic Finance Solutions: Lead the structuring of blended finance vehicles, de‑risking mechanisms, and innovative investment platforms to crowd in private capital from commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and corporates for the net‑zero and nature‑positive economy.
- High‑Impact Project Management: Design, develop, and oversee the delivery of multi‑stakeholder projects, including public finance reform, investment pipeline creation, and structuring capital platforms for country and sectoral transitions. Take an active role in originating opportunities, shaping projects, and ensuring their implementation meets SYSTEMIQ's standards for systemic impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building: Build trusted partnerships with private financial institutions, institutional investors, corporates, as well as governments, regulators, DFIs, and philanthropic actors to align capital flows with transition priorities.
- Technical Expertise & Innovation: Provide authoritative input on blended finance structuring, climate finance architecture, fiscal policy, and capital mobilisation strategies to deliver systemic transformation.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration: Inspire, mentor, and grow project teams; strengthen collaboration across SYSTEMIQ's global offices and platforms; and contribute to scaling SYSTEMIQ's role as a global leader in catalytic finance for transitions.
Candidate Profile
A mission‑driven and entrepreneurial leader with senior‑level expertise in catalytic and blended finance instruments, with a proven ability to originate opportunities, influence policy, shape markets, and balance engagement across private financial institutions, governments, and multilateral funders at scale.
Essential Qualifications
- 10+ years of leadership experience in sustainable finance, blended/catalytic finance, economic development, or public‑private investment platforms.
- Proven record of structuring and delivering innovative blended finance solutions that mobilise private capital for public goods.
- Strong networks with senior leaders in private financial institutions, institutional investors, corporates, as well as policymakers, DFIs, and donors.
- Technical depth in climate finance architecture, risk‑sharing mechanisms, investment pipeline development, and market design.
- System thinker who can bridge long‑term systems transformation with near‑term delivery.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to guide diverse, multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Experience in advisory services, ideally balancing both private sector financial institutions (e.g., banks, investors, corporates) and public sector stakeholders (governments and multilateral organisations).
- Alignment with SYSTEMIQ's values: creativity, challenge, collaboration, care, and change.
Why Join Systemiq?
- Catalytic Impact: Design and deliver cutting‑edge blended finance instruments that unlock systemic change.
- Global Platform: Shape Systemiq's sustainable finance agenda across multiple geographies.
