Company Description

Systemiq is a system change company and certified B Corp, driving the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change. We work across five critical systems—energy, nature and food, materials and circular economy, sustainable finance, and urban transformation—to deliver real, lasting impact. We believe systems change starts with people change. That means curiosity, collaboration, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work. Since our start in 2016, we have grown to more than 300+ people working across locations in Brazil, Germany, France, Indonesia, Netherlands, UK and the US. We are a pure‑play sustainability‑focused company, dedicated exclusively to sustainability projects.

Position

The Senior Communications Manager for Systemiq’s Energy Platform will lead the planning and implementation of the platform’s communications with the aim of enhancing the visibility and impact of key projects. Working hand in hand with our teams based internationally with an initial focus on Europe, the United States and Latam, as well as with Systemiq’s key external partners, the Senior Communications Manager will ensure our communications are of the highest quality across all projects and assets. The role requires a keen understanding of climate communications (ideally with experience of the energy transition and industry sector experience e.g. steel, aviation and shipping), acute communications instincts, and the ability to work professionally and diplomatically with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives. The right candidate will have a proven track record of planning and managing end‑to‑end communication projects (including report launches), media engagement, producing digital and media assets and crafting powerful stories. We are looking for someone who is at ease working in English, can demonstrate strong planning/coordination skills and is at ease working with partner and client communications colleagues. You will be part of a dynamic and committed Energy Platform and will work closely with senior leadership to increase awareness of Systemiq’s energy work and create marketing opportunities for the energy business. So direct experience of marketing communications is required. In addition, there will be the opportunity to work closely with other comms colleagues at Systemiq (Nature & Food, Materials & Circular Economy, Sustainable Finance, Managing Partner Office).

Contract: Full‑time – initially 12 month contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & planning: Oversee communications across the Energy Platform, developing a forward‑looking plan of external priorities, aligning with senior leadership, and ensuring effective budgeting and resourcing.
  • Media & External Relations: Serve as the primary contact for journalists, manage coalition communications (e.g. Zero Emission Port Alliance, Project SkyPower, Ukraine Green Industrial Recovery Platform, Energy Transitions Commission), and maintain consistent Systemiq branding across all external outputs.
  • Content & Campaigns: Manage and produce communication materials (strategies, campaigns, press releases, op‑eds, social media, blogs, newsletters) and manage external vendors for creative projects (design, multimedia, publications) within budget.
  • Events & Engagements: Design and deliver external convenings (virtual and in‑person) that engage stakeholders and strengthen partnerships.
  • Internal Coordination: Ensure alignment with other Systemiq communications colleagues, keep internal stakeholders (board, investors, colleagues) informed and contribute to planning tools such as editorial and events trackers.
  • Reputation & Impact: Identify and mitigate reputational risks in coordination with leadership, and set, track, and report communications metrics to measure impact.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strategic Communications: Proven track record delivering high‑impact communications on global climate and sustainability issues, with 7+ years’ professional experience in communications and/or journalism.
  • Media & Messaging: Strong experience managing media relationships and requests, and developing compelling messaging across digital, video, print, and social channels.
  • Content & Publications: Skilled in copy‑editing and publishing reports, articles, press releases, and other materials, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Project & People Management: Experienced in coaching colleagues, and managing complex communications projects with external partners, agencies, and designers, ensuring timely, effective delivery.
  • Tools & Innovation: Proficient in key communications tools (e.g. Cision, Meltwater, PowerPoint, Mailchimp), with demonstrated ability to integrate AI platforms to enhance workflows and outputs.
  • Languages & Communication: Fluent in English, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Diversity & Inclusion

At Systemiq, we believe that diversity and inclusion are crucial to system change and our mission. We are committed to embedding diverse and inclusive practices in all aspects of our work, including recruitment, performance management, and people processes and policies. We provide a supportive environment where everyone can be themselves and perform at their best, regardless of background, personality, gender, sexual orientation, race, mental health, religion, or other characteristics.
