We are seeking a Production Engineer with strong systems engineering fundamentals and an operational mindset to join our global technology team. You will focus on the resilience, automation, and observability of production systems that power a mission-critical quantitative trading platform. The role is based in London and forms part of a follow-the-sun global support model. This is not a pure support role — we’re looking for engineers who can write code to eliminate toil, improve reliability, and automate release, monitoring, and recovery processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain automated tools to support system deployments, monitoring, alerting, and operational workflows;
- Monitor health of trading systems with a goal of proactive failure prevention;
- Take ownership of, and improve incident response, root cause analysis, and blameless post-mortems;
- Partner with developers to build scalable, testable, and efficient deployment pipelines;
- Collaborate with trading, operations, and quant teams, as well as external vendors, to troubleshoot and optimise production environment.
Essential, desirable and standout technical expertise
Essential
- Strong Linux - adept at managing resource and security, diagnosing issues in storage, network and performance;
- Strong Python (OOO) and Bash;
- Strong MS SQL Server;
- GitHub;
- Build Servers & CI/CD pipelines.
Desirable
- Deep working experience with Ansible playbooks & Galaxy;
- Observability platforms & protocols;
- Docker containers;
- Financial Services experience in similar buy-side environment;
- An eye for process improvement & opportunities for automation.
Would standout with experience
- Knowledge of AWS Services relevant to HPC and Batch computing;
- Supporting platforms over hybrid cloud infra;
- K8s orchestration;
- Terraform IaC.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Five or more years of experience supporting complex real-time trading systems at a hedge fund or investment bank;
- A breadth of exposure to different technologies in delivering improvement and change. This could include multiple operating systems, programming languages, databases, scripting solutions and deployment / configuration management tools;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to process improvement;
- Cool under pressure. Able to prioritise and have adaptability in dealing with uncertainty in their approach to solving problems.
