Ever wondered what it takes to turn raw data into decisions that matter on the battlefield? As a Data Scientist at Systematic, you'll design and build the AI capabilities that give defence forces a real operational edge – and work directly with the people who use them.
The job: AI that makes a difference, from concept to customer
Working closely with Defence customers and internal teams, you will design, implement, and support AI-driven solutions within Systematic's SitaWare ecosystem, contributing directly to real-world operational effectiveness. You'll take AI capabilities from concept through to deployment, always keeping the end user's needs in focus.
In short, you can look forward to:
- Integrating AI services, including agentic workflows, to automate data processing and analysis, generating high-value outputs that support senior decision-makers
- Engaging users and stakeholders to capture AI requirements, drive solutions and adoption
- Collaborating with Data Engineers and Intelligence Domain Advisors to deliver customer value during experimentation and operational activities, including military exercises
- Training customers on data and AI tools to ensure effective operational use of SitaWare products
You'll be based in Farnborough, Hampshire, UK, and should expect around 30% travel time – mainly domestic travel to support customers on-site at their locations across the UK, plus some international travel for customer activities and internal company activities such as training.
The team: join a collaborative and international team, close to the customer
You'll join a team of 18 colleagues spread across Farnborough (UK), Bucharest (Romania) and Paris (France). The Western Europe team is a multidisciplinary group of project managers, solution architects, engineers, trainers and consultants, working highly collaboratively to ensure successful delivery of our projects. You'll report to a Senior Manager and work alongside Data Engineers and Intelligence Domain Advisors on a daily basis.
What you bring: technical capability and a problem-solving mindset
You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science or a related field, along with around 2 years of experience in a Data Scientist role within the software/IT industry. Experience working directly with external customers is desirable, as is knowledge of, or experience in, the defence/military domain.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing machine learning models
- Programming skills in languages, tools and frameworks commonly used in data science
- Experience in data preprocessing and feature engineering
- Computer science skills to support the overall development of the data science service
- Fluent English
- UK Driving Licence
You're comfortable working well in teams or independently, bring excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and are a strong problem-solver.
