We are seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Engineer to join our IT infrastructure team in Glasgow. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux-based systems and servers, ensuring their performance, reliability, and security. The Linux Engineer will work closely with other IT professionals to support the organisation's IT infrastructure and contribute to current Managed Service Support and Project workstreams.
What will you be doing?
- Design, deploy, and manage Linux-based servers and systems.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimise system performance.
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems from vulnerabilities and threats.
- Manage system backups, recovery processes, and disaster recovery planning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application deployment and integration.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to improve system efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other IT team members and end-users.
- Document system configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in Linux system administration.
Who are we looking for?
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience as a Linux Engineer or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
- Experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
