An established engineering consultancy is expanding its design team in Southampton. We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to complex superyacht projects from conception through to refit. In this role, you will deliver high-level engineering design work while ensuring all technical specifications and classification standards are met. You will also provide technical guidance to multi-disciplinary colleagues and supervise project-specific engineering teams when required. Innovation is central to our operation. You will actively support research and development initiatives to advance industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Design: Execute precise engineering design calculations for assigned projects.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure all project specifications comply fully with classification society and national authority standards.
  • Quality Control: Manage the accuracy, detail, and rigorous checking of all project deliverables prior to release.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a technical point of contact for clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Workload Coordination: Balance your deliverables across multiple concurrent projects in alignment with the Discipline Lead.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential technical risks early and review them directly with the Technical Project Manager.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience within the marine sector.
  • Strong technical problem-solving capabilities backed by sound engineering judgement.
  • Proven capability to produce clear, precise technical reports, drawings, and plans.
  • Commercial awareness to deliver projects on time, to specification, and within budget.
  • Excellent self-management skills with the ability to define resource requirements.
