Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Composite Draughtsman to join our engineering team. In this role, you will assist in the creation and modification of detailed technical drawings and schematics for composite materials used in the marine industry.
The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of drafting principles and be eager to develop their skills in composite material design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings for composite parts and assemblies using CAD software (such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Assist in the development and refinement of composite component designs under the supervision of senior team members.
- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and design guidelines to create accurate technical drawings.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure drawings are aligned with project requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
- Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes, improvements, or corrections.
- Ensure that all drawings adhere to industry standards and company protocols.
- Prepare Bill of Materials (BOMs) and other supporting documentation as required.
- Participate in meetings to discuss design changes, technical challenges, and project updates.
- Perform basic quality checks to ensure design integrity and consistency.
- Continuously develop drafting skills through on-the-job learning and formal training opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field (or a relevant combination of experience and education).
- Basic knowledge of composite materials and their applications is preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, etc.) and basic drafting techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings and documentation.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new design techniques quickly.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with composite materials, laminates, or similar advanced materials.
- Familiarity with industry standards for composite manufacturing and design (e.g., aerospace, automotive).
