Overview
SYOS is a pioneering company focused on developing industry leading utilitarian autonomous vehicles across air, land and sea. SYOS family of utilitarian vehicles are all powered with SYOS’ control system with various advanced computer vision, swarming and communication systems.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electronics Design Engineer to join our expanding Electronics Components team in the UK.
Important: This role sits within our Electronics Components division, which focuses specifically on designing and developing the electronic hardware that powers our vehicles\’ sensing and vision capabilities. You will be working on camera systems and vision electronics – designing the PCBs, digital circuits, and interfaces that bring high-performance imaging to life. This is not an autonomy software or vehicle integration role; this is hands-on electronic design for camera hardware.
Your first project will involve designing a complete camera system from the ground up, including sensor integration, high-speed data interfaces, and control electronics.
Responsibilities
- Schematic Capture & PCB Design: Develop detailed schematics and perform multi-layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts for camera modules and vision system electronics
- High-Speed Digital Design: Design circuits with high-speed differential signalling (MIPI CSI-2, LVDS) to interface with imaging sensors
- Mixed-Signal Design: Work with both digital control logic and analogue signal conditioning for optimal sensor performance
- FPGA & Microcontroller Integration: Implement digital control and image pre-processing using FPGAs and embedded microcontrollers
- Communication Interfaces: Design and integrate USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and other data transmission interfaces for camera data output
- Electronics Assembly & Debugging: Build prototypes, conduct thorough fault-finding, signal integrity testing, and iterative debugging
- Sensor Integration: Work directly with CMOS and other imaging sensors, understanding datasheets and implementing power sequencing, clocking, and control
- Collaboration: Work closely with the optical design, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration
- Problem Solving: Apply strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex design challenges related to signal integrity, EMI/EMC, and thermal management
- Documentation: Create comprehensive design documentation, test plans, assembly procedures, and design for manufacture (DFM) guidelines
What You\’ll Bring
- Bachelor\’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of proven professional experience in electronics hardware design and development
- Experience from any industry sector – we welcome candidates from consumer electronics, industrial systems, medical devices, automotive, telecoms hardware, or any background where you\’ve designed electronic products
Core Skills (Essential)
- PCB Design Proficiency: Expert use of schematic capture and PCB layout software (Altium Designer, KiCad, Eagle, or similar)
- Multi-layer PCB Design: Demonstrable experience designing 6+ layer PCBs with controlled impedance routing
- High-Speed Digital Design: Understanding of signal integrity, differential pairs, impedance matching, and layout techniques for high-speed interfaces (100+ MHz)
- Digital Electronics: Strong foundation in digital logic design, timing analysis, and digital signal processing
- Communication Protocols: Hands-on experience implementing MIPI CSI-2, USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, or UART in hardware
- Practical Skills: Experience with electronics assembly, oscilloscope/logical analyser debugging, and bring-up of new hardware
Highly Desirable Skills
- Camera/Imaging Experience: Prior work with CMOS sensors, ISPs, or camera module design
- FPGA Development: Experience with VHDL or Verilog for image processing or high-speed I/O
- Embedded Programming: Ability to write firmware for microcontrollers (C/C++, Python) to control camera hardware
- Mixed-Signal Design: Experience with ADCs, DACs, power supply design, and noise reduction techniques
- High-Speed Interfaces: Specific experience with MIPI CSI-2, LVDS, or other camera serial interfaces
- Design for Manufacture: Understanding of DFM/DFA principles, component selection for production, and design cost optimisation
- Testing & Validation: Experience creating automated test fixtures and validation procedures
What We Offer
- A dynamic and fast-paced environment working on state-of-the-art UxV technology.
- Opportunities for career growth in a high-tech, innovative team.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Continuous learning opportunities.
