It’s hard to build a reliable system. It’s harder to make sure that what you’ve built is really reliable. Synthesized is redefining software testing. Our platform automates test data, test cases, and test environments - empowering enterprise teams to ship faster, reduce compliance risks, and modernise QA at scale. Our products are used by some of the world’s leading organizations, such as Deutsche Bank, UBS, the European Commission, and others. We’re an ambitious VC-backed startup, having just gone through Series A with leading global investors including redalpine, IQ Capital, Seedcamp, and Deutsche Bank. We have ambitious growth plans, and we are so keen for you to join us on the journey.
As our QA Engineer you’ll be the champion for product quality across a fast-moving platform built for engineers and QAs. We’re expanding the team so our automated testing can keep pace with the rapid growth of our hybrid architecture—SaaS control plane plus on-premises agent data plane. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll design the quality strategy, build the tooling, and lay the foundations for a future QA team with a growth path toward Lead/Manager as we expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the end-to-end test strategy for both control-plane (cloud) and data-plane (agent) components.
- Design, implement and maintain multi-layer automation—UI (Playwright/Selenium), API/contract, integration and distributed-system scenarios.
- Validate product behavior across diverse database environments - PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and other supported engines.
- Build a protocol-level test harness for our remote-agent communication, including fault-injection and network-chaos cases.
- Embed quality gates and trend reporting into our GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline.
- Partner with Product Manager and Solution Architects to clarify acceptance criteria, surface risks and verify real-world workflows.
- Leverage observability-driven testing (logs, traces, metrics) to detect hidden regressions and performance bottlenecks.
About You
- Solid hands-on experience in software testing / quality engineering, preferably within cloud-native or hybrid/edge architectures.
- Extensive experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and familiarity with NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Redis).
- Proficiency writing SQL—complex queries, joins, window functions, query plan analysis.
- Understanding of database operations: connection management, transactions, indexing, backup/restore, replication topologies.
- Proficiency automating tests in Kotlin or Java (JUnit, Testcontainers, REST-assured/Ktor tests) and UI automation with Playwright or Selenium.
- Comfort validating distributed systems: asynchronous protocols, chaos/failure scenarios.
- Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code to spin up realistic test topologies.
- Fluent with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions.
- Experience using observability stacks (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) to derive test assertions.
- Clear, concise communicator able to collaborate effectively with engineers, PMs, Solution Architects and (occasionally) customers.
- Security, compliance or data-privacy testing exposure is a plus (our agents run inside customer networks).
What We Offer
- Competitive salary & meaningful equity – so you share in our success.
- 25 days annual leave + celebration days + your birthday off.
- Work From Anywhere – up to 1 month per year, fully flexible.
- Hybrid working – a mix of home and our London offices.
- Learning & development budget – for coaching, courses, and conferences.
- Private medical, dental & vision cover.
- Regular team socials & offsites – connect, celebrate, and recharge.
- A collaborative team – smart, ambitious, and supportive.
- Generous family leave – because life outside of work matters too.
