Overview
In this role you drive the architectural direction of Synthesia’s internal developer platform, enabling faster, safer engineering at scale. You own end-to-end delivery from design to production, collaborating with leadership to shape the roadmap and mentoring engineers to elevate technical practice. You lead multi-quarter initiatives, balance trade-offs, and ensure healthy, scalable systems that enable commercial outcomes. This is a high-ownership role in a fast-moving AI-focused environment with a strong emphasis on developer velocity and quality.

Responsibilities
- Own architectural decisions governing feature builds, releases, and long-term support
- Mentor engineers and strengthen technical practice through code reviews and design partnerships
- Lead multi-quarter projects and break complex problems into milestones
- Operate with high autonomy, defining success criteria and trade-offs
- Partner with leadership to shape roadmap and technical strategy, challenging requirements when needed
- Own operational health of systems and use data to guide iteration, maintenance, and deprecation
- Be accountable for the technical direction of your area and plan for long-term scalability
Key requirements
- 7+ years as a software engineer, with 2–3 years in senior/staff roles
- Hands-on experience building and operating developer platforms, CI/CD systems, observability/metrics infrastructure, code quality automation, testing infrastructure, or developer tooling
- Shipped infrastructure or tooling that improved developer velocity or reduced cognitive load
- Experience leading adoption of AI-powered developer tools across engineering
- Experience in high-performing organizations where infrastructure choices affect velocity and quality
- Experience integrating third-party services (APIs, SaaS, external platforms) into internal systems with reliability, security, and UX considerations
- Understanding that platform work enables commercial outcomes
- Experience owning large technical areas end-to-end
